Hi,
Olivier from Paris, here (excuse my not so good English).
I've been using Boinc now for years, without any issues.
Two weeks ago, I have a serious crash under 10.9.5. I tried to reinstall my OS upon it, it works - I could boot and work for a moment- but some apps won't launch or re install, like Boinc. Apparently it was a problem of authorizations.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3vfdoa2s2fyrh23/boinc_issue.png
The alert message says 'that the installation program is damaged and that it can open the package, probably due a problem of authorizations'
I tried to download again and again, try to fix the authorizations in the Disk Utilities, nothing same message again and again. Same effects after using TechToolPro and DiskWarrior.
So I re install the OS from a former back up. Same error.
So I thought it was a problem of corrupted files. I had to do a clean install (my Adobe Illustrator won't launch and I need it every day). So I did it (I had to upgrade to 10.10 for a long time, but thought it can wait when I'll have some time this summer) and it took me some times (and it is not even on the same drive / SSD).
And this morning, I tried again… and same message.
I tried to dowload it again twice, then the former version, then the version before that (boinc_7.6.34_macOSX_x86_64 / boinc_7.8.6_macOSX_x86_64/ boinc_7.10-2.3_macOSX_x86_64). Same warning each time. I don't understand.
The only think I see about the authorizations is that I had to give myself Read/Write Authorizations as Administrator on the 3 drives / partitions (command-i).

I'm a little desperate, I run Seti from 1999 and Boinc from ages on various Macs and OS', and never had a pb like that :/ I don't want to stop ! ;-)

Newer Mac systems include a security setting that can block the installation of apps downloaded from places other than the Mac App Store. To install (the software this help page is for), you need to allow apps downloaded from identified developers as well the Mac App Store. Do this by adjusting your security settings:
1. Go to System Preferences | Security & Privacy
2. Click on the padlock icon at the lower-left corner to enable you to make changes.
3. Choose 'App Store and identified developers'

Hi Boinc gurus,
I'm sorry to say that, but the latest releases of the Manager on Mac are pathetically unstable.
I use Boinc for decade(s), and this is likely the first time that the frequent net result in trying to run it on my iMac under Sierra 10.12.6 is to freeze it, for example just by switching from the Activity menu bar the use of the GPU to permanent. Even the combination Cmd-Opt-Esc is unable to kill it. The only way to recover is a restart after a hard stop from the ON/OFF switch.
Plus, I deactivated it many months ago on my Mac Pro (same OS version as above) in my lab: I found it systematically hanged after nights and weekends. Then, 16 threads less for the projects...
To conclude, an urgent fix is needed!
Cheers,
JB

Olivier, I have never seen this problem before. What happens if you try to run the Uninstall BOINC application in the Extras folder which comes with the BOINC installer? If you can run it, try doing the uninstall and then try installing again.Charlie Fenton

mrkite33, I cannot reproduce your problem, and we have had no other such reports. When you say 'the latest releases' which version numbers have you had this problem with?
The most common cause of system freezes or crashes when running BOINC are due to overheating of either the GPU or the computer, most commonly the GPU. You might try disabling GPU computation for a while and see if that improves things. You could also try reducing the value for the 'Use at most xx% of CPU time' in the Computing Preferences dialog, which is designed to prevent overheating of the CPU.Charlie Fenton

Hi Charlie,
Sorry, I can't remember how far in the past that issue occurred.
Thanks for the advice about the GPU, I'll have a try.

Hi, thanks for your interest and your answers.
Uninstaller failed too.
But I've succeed to re install everything.
If it can help other users or developers, it was a problem of authorizations (my system authorizations were damaged somehow when installing 3rd parties software).
The crippled system 10.95 seems to be unable to write where Boinc has to write informations and send me this alert. Every tempted repairing actions failed with OnyX or Disk Utilities (for Boinc and other app as well).
As I had installed a new 10.10 on a external SSD drive, the system was apparently unable to write something as well even when I booted on the external drive.
Once I carboncopycloned this new system on my SSD internal drive, everything came alright and I can crunch again.
Thanks again to everyone :)
Olivier
